Position Summary
Experienced in driving policy reform relating to either environmental justice or humanitarian issues?

Fluent in both German and English, with a proven track record of influencing decision-makers at the highest level?

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is seeking a passionate and results focused policy advocacy professional to spearhead their office in Berlin, Germany, and lead on strategic engagement initiatives across a range of national institutions as you champion arguably the world’s most pressing environmental campaigns.

This is a brand-new position and an incredibly unique opportunity for a dedicated and determined individual who is emboldened to step into a senior leadership role with one of the world’s most impactful NGOs working at the intersection of human rights and environmental justice.

The Role

While EJF has a global focus, your remit of influence will be exclusive to affecting change across the German political system.

You will lead on policy advocacy efforts to influence change on issues including illegal fishing, deep-sea mining, wetland protection, and climate action.

As the key point of contact for German political, parliamentary, and civil society stakeholders, you will ensure that EJF’s campaign strategies are nationally relevant, expertly executed, and internationally aligned with EJF’s overarching strategy.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on delivery, diplomacy, and getting results. You will also at times contribute to funding initiatives while helping to ensure the smooth running of EJF’s German legal entity in partnership with their global teams.

Reporting directly to EJF’s CEO and based in their Berlin-Kreuzberg office, you’ll also play a central role in organisational governance, office oversight, and line management of a Policy & Advocacy Officer.

You

You will be fluent in both German and English with deep professional experience in high-level advocacy, ideally within the environmental or human rights space.

With political nous, an eye for detail, and a passion for systems change, you will be comfortable taking charge and leading campaigns, giving media interviews, engaging with lawmakers, and overseeing complex projects with at times, tight deadlines.

You will bring strategic thinking, exceptional communications and interpersonal skills, and a genuine passion for driving policy reform. Most importantly, you’ll be aligned with EJF’s mission to protect our natural world and defend the human rights of those most at risk from environmental breakdown.

A full list of responsibilities can be found in the Job Description
